Course Description

(1) Professional Hairdressing Course

This program is approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.

Duration: 1,500 hours over 39 weeks
Admission Requirements: Age 19 years or older

Content: Two components of theory and techniques

(a) Theory: Hygienic disinfection, human anatomy and physiology theory, dermatology, the natures of hair and skin types, and hair perming and dyeing theory 

(b) Techniques: Shampooing, hair cutting, perming, hair dyeing, hair blowing, hair styling, manicures and foot care, and procedures and requirements for Beauty Council examination.

Languages of Instruction : English, Cantonese or Mandarin.
A diploma is granted upon completion of this course.

 

(2) Professional Esthetics Course

This program is approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.

Duration: 800 hours over 20 weeks
Admission Requirements: Age 19 years or older
English Proficiency: As demonstrated by high school graduation from Canada, USA or a country where English is the language of instruction in high school OR by written testing (Questionnaire) and verbal testing by an instructor of Joy Beauty School.

Content: Two components of theory and techniques 

(a) Theory: Bacteriology and hygienic disinfection, human anatomy, dermatology, performance and use of skincare products  

(b) Techniques: Facials, make-up basics, waxing, manicures, and procedures and requirements for Beauty Council examination

(3) Professional Nails Course

This program is approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.

Duration:400 hours over 10 weeks
Admission Requirements: Age 19 years or older
English Proficiency: As demonstrated by high school graduation from Canada, USA or a country where English is the language of instruction in high school OR by written testing (Questionnaire) and verbal testing by an instructor of Joy Beauty School.

Content:

(a) Theory:Nail theories, nail diseases, and relevant hygiene knowledge. 

(b) Techniques:

A. Manicure, pedicure, paraffin hand wax treatment 
B. Acrylic gel nails 
C. Natural UV nails (gel nails) 
D. Procedures and requirements for a Beauty Council examination.

(4) Spa Body Care and Massage Course

This program is approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.

THIS COURSE IS DESIGNED TO TRAIN STUDENTS FOR WORK AS A NON-THERAPEUTIC MASSAGER IN A BEAUTY SPA. TO WORK IN A THERAPEUTIC (MEDICAL) MASSAGE CLINIC OR TO BECOME A REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPIST (RMT) IN BRITISH COLUMBIA, STUDENTS WILL NEED TO COMPLETE A THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE PROGRAM FROM A MASSAGE SCHOOL APPROVED BY THE CMTBC. JOY BEAUTY SCHOOL AND ITS SPA MASSAGE COURSE ARE NOT APPROVED BY THE COLLEGE OF MASSAGE THERAPISTS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA (CMTBC) WHICH REGULATES MASSAGE THERAPISTS IN BRITISH COLUMBIA.

Duration: 640 hours over 16 weeks
Admission Requirements: Age 19 years or older
English Proficiency: As demonstrated by high school graduation from Canada, USA or a country where English is the language of instruction in high school OR by written testing (Questionnaire) and verbal testing by an instructor of Joy Beauty School.

(a) Theory: Personal Hygiene, Bone Groups, Muscle Groups, Nervous System Organization

(b) Techniques: Sanitation Practice, Hand Exercises, Prone (Face Down) Massage, Supine (Face Up) Massage, Amoratherapy Hot Stone Massage, Lymphatic Drainage Massage in Supine (Face Up) Position and Lymphatic Drainage Massage in Prone (Face Down) Position.

REFUND POLICY

Circumstances when Refund Payable 

Amount of Refund

Before program start date, institution receives a notice of withdrawal (applies to all students)

  • No later than seven days after student signed the enrolment contract, and
  • Before the program start date. 

100% tuition and all related fees, other than application fee. Related fees include: administrative fees, application fees, assessment fees, and fees charged for textbooks or other course materials.

  • At least 30 days before the later of:
  • The program start date in the most recent Letter of Acceptance (international students)
  • The program start date in the enrolment contract.

Institution may retain up to 10% of tuition, to a maximum of $1,000.
Institution must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.

  • More than seven days after the student and institution signed the enrolment contract, and
  • Less than 30 days before the later of:
  • The program start date in the most recent Letter of Acceptance (international students)
  • The program start date in the enrolment contract.

Institution may retain up to 20% of tuition, to a maximum of $1,300.
Institution must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.

After program start date, institution provides a notice of dismissal or receives a notice of withdrawal (applies to all students, except those enrolled in a program delivered solely by distance education)

  • After the program start date, and up to and including 10% of instruction hours have been provided.

Institution may retain up to 30% of tuition.
Institution must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.

  • After the program start date, and after more than 10%, but before 30% of instruction hours, have been provided.

Institution may retain up to 50% of tuition.
Institution must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.

Student does not attend program – “no-show” (applies to all students except those enrolled in a program delivered solely by distance education):

  • Student does not attend the first 30% of the program. 

Institution may retain up to 50% of the tuition.
Institution must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.
